Carbon Farming

Mānuka is classified as a forest species by MPI, and can be used to earn and sell carbon credits in addition to deriving revenue from honey production.

There are several requirements that need to be met before being able to join the ETS. We recommend you look at MPI’s Fact Sheets on joining the ETS to understand if your land qualifies.

For areas less than 100ha, landowner can use MPI’s lookup tables (schedule 6, Table2) to understand how much carbon is accumulated per hectare in indigenous forests. https://www.mpi.govt.nz/dmsdocument/4762/direct

Mānuka Farming can provide a range of indigenous species (and even exotics, such as eucalyptus) that are suitable for carbon farming at extremely competitive prices.
